RECOGNIZING DEFENSES

You should learn how to properly recognize the difference between man to man and a zone defense. In man-to-man defense the defense of back the lineup directly in front of the receiver and will shadow the receiver. In his own defense the defense of back will retreat quickly away from the receiver to cover a specific area on the field.

It's important that you work on this area with your high school coaches so that you can always immediately recognize what defensive scheme you're going up against. Some of this information may seem very basic to a lot of you, but it's information it's a very important and that you really have to understand if you are to succeed in the NCAA.
