Using High Quality Video To Showcase Your Athletic Ability For College Sports Scholarships

As a high school athlete in Canada you're active in sports right now and you know you’re a strong player. You may already be counting on a decent scholarship from one of the colleges in the NCAA or NAIA that you’ve been considering attending?

After all, most people do believe that all good athletes are going to find the money they deserve for college.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. In fact, not only do the majority of high school athletes not earn sports scholarships, only about 6% of them ever have a chance to play at the college level. That's not necessarily because they don't have the talent either. There are many other factors, as you may be aware of from the information on this website.

"Using Video to Land a Scholarship"

Since there is less than a 1% chance that college coaches will see you play in person, you need to make sure they can do the next best thing: watch you play on video.

Creating a high-quality video recording that showcases your talents is an excellent way of getting a coach's attention and showing him or her what they could be missing out on if they don't send some money your way.

Here are the secrets on how to use a highlight video to your full advantage:

  1. First have a family member or friend video tape your games. You should have 2 – 3 full games videotaped.
  2. Then, have a professional sports videographer with extensive experience with high school and college athletes, edit and 'polish' your video.
Coaches need to see you in action in a short, effective highlight package.

It's not just good enough to have "raw" video footage for college coaches to view. The initial video college coaches want to see is a short 4-minute (yes, four minutes max) highlighting your best athletic qualities.

This is why a professional video service is critical. Then, if the coach likes what he or she sees, and as long as you are completely pre-qualified both athletically and academically (CSA Prepstar Canada of course does this) then the college coach will need to see a longer video, your 2 to 3 games condensed down to focus on all of your plays, not just the best ones.

Your video must contain "advanced editing" such as:

  • A 'spotlight' on you to identify you from the rest of the athletes.
  • Slow motion on specific areas in order for the coaches to see how good you really are.
  • The opening few seconds need to contain specific stats in your sport.

Remember your future could depend on how good your video showcases your athletic talents. Whether you are a client of CSA Prepstar Canada or not, we highly recommend "Replay My Act" in Scarborough, Ontario for all your video highlight needs.

At CSA Prepstar Canada we use 'Replay My Act' for all of our video editing and recommend you do the same for your highlight videos.

Obviously there is a lot more to getting into college and getting a sports scholarship than just a video. It's a part of the over-all process, but a very important part at that.

"What Could Keep You From College Sports And Receiving A Sports Scholarship Or Other Financial Aid?"

College coaches want to find the best players possible for their teams. After all, strong teams win games and draw fans; which usually help them end up securing more financial support from the school and its alumni. However, college coaches are limited in what they can do. For example, these coaches are given only about $5000 per year for their search efforts.

Because of the limited budget and the time constraints, most college coaches don't get to visit as much of the country as they would like. They might miss some great talent simply because they never stopped in a particular town or saw a certain team's game.

While word-of-mouth among other coaches and players may land your name in front of one of these college coaches, it isn't very likely. Remember you’re going to be competing with thousands of other athletes and if you're picky about the college you want to attend then your chances may be even lower unless you take the matter into your own hands.

If you haven't filled out your 'Athlete Evaluation Profile' , please do so now so you don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity.
